Excursions to the KIS-BALATON

One of the most beautiful protected areas of Hungary, Kis-Balaton fascinates you with its unique bird and wetland fauna. The land belonging to the Balaton-Felvidék National Park and the surrounding settlements offer many ways to spend your free time in the nature:

  • Kányavári Island: admire the unique birdlife in the course of a pleasant picnic while sitting in the grass or watching from the look-out tower with a binocular.
  • Zalavár, Kis-Balaton House: introduction of the environmental and water protection, flora and fauna, ethnographical and historical overview of this unique natural environment.
  • Petting Zoo in Fenyvespuszta: here you can watch, touch and feed the domestic animals. The farm is located opposite to the entrance of the Kányavári Island near the village of Balatonmagyaród. You may find the periodical and weekend programs on the home page of the Petting Zoo: www.fenyvespuszta.hu
  • Buffalo Reserve of Kápolnapuszta – the largest buffalo livestock of Hungary may be obtained at first hand on a one and a half kilometres long path. The Reserve plays an important role in the preservation of this species and presents us the history of this big but gentle indigenous animal.
